Apple’s iPad sales cross 2 million in two months

Technology giant Apple's new hit, the iPad, saw its sales cross 2 million since its launch almost two months ago, as customers are lured to buy the multi-media touch screen tablet device, which other companies had made earlier but flopped.
The Cupertino, California-based Apple said yesterday that iPad sales have topped two million in less than 60 days since its launch on 3 April. (See: Apple to launch iPad in April)
Following its 3 April debut, Apple had sold upward of 300,000 iPads on the first day and a million iPads in 28 days, (See: Apple sells one million iPads in 28 days) which exceeded the wildest pre-launch estimates and demand was so heavy the company had to delay the international launch.
''Customers around the world are experiencing the magic of iPad, and seem to be loving it as much as we do,'' said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. ''We appreciate their patience, and are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone.''
In addition to these new sales figures released today, Apple said that developers have created over 5,000 new apps for iPad available on the App Store, taking the overall applications to more than 200,000.
Apple, which now gets around three-fifths of its revenue from outside the US, began shipping iPad in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK on 29 May (See: iPad opens for sale in Europe and Asia) and had said that it will be available in nine more countries in July and additional countries later this year.
