Apple to update 21.5-inch iMac model with 4K display
05 Sep 2015
Apple will update the 21.5-inch iMac model with a 4K display, a report by 9To5Mac said.
According to the report which cited sources, the company was looking to announce a refreshed variant of the smaller iMac by the end of October, along with the OS X El Captain. It would start shipping the device by the start of November.
The all new 21.5 inch iMac's 4K display was said to feature a resolution of 4096 x 2304, which meant it was increased from the 1920 x 1080 screen resolution found in the current model. Higher resolution could also mean a more expensive product.
The report further pointed at the possibility of faster process and improved colour saturation.
It was still not clear, however, if Apple would release multiple models of the 21.5-inch iMac in October. There was no word on the chips to be used in the system, it was, however, widely speculated to be the Skylake chips.
It needs to be pointed out that Apple had not updated the 21.5-inch iMac since 2013. The company had earlier this year, refreshed the 27-inch iMac lineup, along with new models of the MacBook Pro.
The new iMac would hit store shelves by early November and with the upgrade in screen, along with potential upgrades in other hardware, it would inevitably cost more than the current line.
There is a chance that Apple would keep the current FHD models around a bit longer to let the market get used to the higher prices, commentators.
