Facebook for iPhone drains battery life: Report
09 Feb 2016
Facebook's apps have long been suspected of being power guzzlers, but the company had claimed to have addressed those glitches on iOS last year.
The Guardian recently conducted a test that compared the native iOS app against the mobile web version of Facebook on an iPhone 6s Plus.
After a week of testing with the native iOS app on the phone, the test was repeated with the web version instead.
The test revealed that when using the App Store app, the battery charge declined at an average of 15 per cent of the battery charge.
Android users too are not immune, as a test on a Google Nexus 6P found a 20 per cent higher battery life left when using the web version rather than the native app. Other users had also reported that their Android phones seem to load faster once Facebook was out of the picture.
Last year, AVG had also reported a number of apps that were negatively impacting the performance of Android smartphones. According to the security firm, the Facebook app, which automatically starts running at startup, drained battery, bandwidth and other resources.
It may be recalled that Facebook's iOS app was last year found to contain a bug that was apparently responsible for draining the battery on iPhones.
Facebook had at the time assured users that it had resolved the bug.
