Apple’s tenth-anniversary iPhone to be most expensive yet: Reports
09 Feb 2017
Apple's tenth-anniversary iPhone is expected to come with a steep price tag - upwards of $1,000.
Thanks to the array of advanced features, the device would offer and its innovative design, the handset would be the priciest the firm had produced so far.
The flagship smartphone gets an edge-to-edge OLED display coupled with 3D sensing that would ultimately double the price.
Rumours doing the rounds had suggested that the iPhone 8 may have dual lens 3D camera, curved glass casing, facial recognition and many other high-tech features.
Though the $1,000 (£800) plus pitch might seem unrealistic, Apple had already released a smartphone, the 256GB version of the iPhone 7 Plus that retails for $969 (£919).
"The new iPhone 8 is expected to be packed with many more features," Fast Company reported.
There is some uncertainty about the name for Apple's 5.8-inch phone, as some say it would be called the 'iPhone 8', while others suggest 'iPhone X'.
However, it would "look something like a smooth black monolith, with few visual interruptions to its sleek design," explained Sullivan.
Apple will also launch two other smartphones along with the iPhone 8 – a 4.7-inch (the iPhone 7s) and a 5.5-inch (the iPhone 7s Plus), according to rumours.
Meanwhile, the Telegraph reported that Apple might dump the home button, which had been a feature of every iPhone since the first one 10 years ago. It has already deployed advanced pressure-detection technology with 3D Touch, and its iPhone 7 had a solid-state home button that vibrates instead of clicking.
The iPhone screen now activated when the phone was picked up, there was therefore less need to click a physical home button. Apple had also patented a way of embedding Touch ID, its fingerprint reading technology, in the screen, which could take care of security issues.
