Apple to debut new iPhone SE in August: reports
20 Jul 2017
Apple plans to debut a new iPhone SE later this year at an 'event' in August, French website iGeneration reported.
The company would then follow up with the flagship iPhone 8 launch later this year, around October.
Though there had been talk about the new iPhone launch getting delayed this year as against previous years, but people had expected Apple to stick to the same announcement schedule of early September, even if the device was not available for a couple of months.
iGeneration added that the new SE model would be even cheaper, starting at €399 but the current iPhone SE was priced at €489 for a 32 GB model (although it was regularly discounted) and was theoretically due for an update, debuting in March 2016.
According to commentators, though, it was hard to put too much trust in the claims right now, this was the first time that anything had been heard about a new iPhone SE in the pipeline.
Also even iGeneration said it was a 'new source', which meant there was no track record of accuracy to consider.
According to rumours, three new phones would be offered with 4.7-inch, 5.5-inch and 5.8-inch displays.
According to some commentators, though, the launch of the new iPhone SE appeared questionable, since Apple had never introduced a new device in August.
The company generally held a press event in September, when it unveiled its flagship smartphone. The first iPhone SE was launched in March 2016.
They point out that the Apple iPhone SE had always been seen as the bridge between the iPhone 5S and iPhone 6. Although the 4-inch smartphone packed powerful hardware and improved cameras, the interest in the iPhone SE was weaker than other iPhone models.
