07 Feb 2011
State-run electrical equipment maker Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has joined hands with Abengoa of Spain, a European leader in solar and other energy-related projects, for setting up solar power projects in India.
BHEL, the largest manufacture of electrical equipment in the country, will develop state-of-the-art concentrated solar power projects in India along with Abengoa, the release said.
B P Rao, CMD of BHEL and Santiago Seage, chairman and CEO of Abengoa Solar, have signed an agreement in Seville, Spain, in this regard.
Under the agreement both companies will leverage their capabilities in offering EPC solutions for concentrated solar power (CSP) projects within the country as also other parts of the world.
The agreement is significant in the context of the government's target of achieving 20,000 MW of solar power projects by 2022. The Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission recently launched by the government, has committed the country to the abatement of green house gas emission aimed at reducing global warming.
BHEL and Abengoa will use the CSP technologies, which harness the energy of the sun for power generation.
