Mumbai: Refrigeration and air-conditioning company Blue Star has secured an order valued at Rs38 crore order for the air-conditioning of India's first indigenously designed fast breeder reactor from Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) for the Kalpakkam project.
NPCIL has been entrusted to set up fast breeder reactors by the Government of India, and a 500 MW fast breeder reactor will be set up at the cost of approximately Rs3500 crore at Kalpakkam.
The fast breeder reactor is being built using the design and technology developed at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), also located at Kalpakkam. The reactor at Kalpakkam is the first indigenously designed fast breeder reactor.
Blue Star will air-condition the entire Kalpakkam project, including supply of water cooled centrifugal chillers, with the project to be completed over a period of 24 months.
