29 Feb 2008
BMW Group will unveil the Vision EfficientDynamics, a new concept car, at the Geneva Motor Show (4-16 March). For the first time, BMW engineers have combined Mild ActiveHybrid technology with a twin-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine in a large sports active vehicle.
The exterior design of the Vision EfficientDynamics is based on the BMW X5. The concept car is fitted with a new eight-speed automatic gearbox and even roof-mounted solar panels, and all covered in a BMW X5 body.
The car delivers an average fuel consumption of 6.5 litres per 100 kilometers and a CO2 emission level of 172 grams per kilometre, which makes the Vision concept the most efficient vehicle of its size in the competitive environment of the BMW X models
With its twin-turbocharged two-litre diesel engine delivering more than 100hp per litre, the Vision EfficientDynamics concept completes the sprint from zero to 62mph in just 8.9 seconds, a time faster than most current production competitors.
All of these technologies combine to deliver the best fuel economy and lowest emissions, which gives the BMW concept edge over its competitors. The concept is powered by a technologically advanced engine, which is combined to a new eight- speed automatic transmission. Developed jointly between BMW and ZF, the new gearbox delivers fast and efficient gear changes.
