26 Jul 2010
CNN today announced the launch of international version of the CNN App on the App store for iPhone and iPad users. The launch is a follow up of its app service in US, which had been launched last year.
The CNN App is available free of charge to users outside US and features push notification, regionalisation and personalisation tools.
Louis Gump, vice president of Mobile at CNN, said, ''CNN's new app will offer our international audience a fantastic mobile experience for iPhone and iPod touch, delivering unique features and a user-friendly design.''
It showcases important global news through text, video and photos, and also includes user-generated content capture and uploads functionality through iReport, CNN's user-generated news community.
''Our users, including many business travelers, understand that the world is a highly connected place,'' said Nick Wrenn, vice president of digital services for CNN International. ''Our aim with the CNN App is to serve their mobile needs, putting relevant news, analysis and video right at their fingertips in a form that is both personally relevant and easy to use.''
Through the personalisation feature, users will get an automatic alert as CNN publishes new stories and developments related to topics designated by the user, offline access and access to regional content.
The iReport initiative lets users browse user-generated content, register, sign-in to their account or sign on as a guest to capture and instantly upload user-generated photos and videos.
Besides these, latest headlines across categories including Top Stories, U.S., Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Business, Sport, Entertainment, Tech and Travel; bulleted highlights giving a short synopsis of the article; sharing tools; and video on demand features are included.
CNN Worldwide is a division of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., a Time Warner Company. Its reach extends to nine cable and satellite television networks, one private place-based network, two radio networks and wireless devices around the world.
