Facebook warning message about hacker a hoax
10 Jul 2017
Many Facebook users may have seen or received a Facebook message yesterday warning them not to accept a friend request from a certain individual.
The message refers to some person called Jayden K Smith, who the post claims was a "hacker" who "has the system connected to your Facebook account," according to many of the posts.
The message says: "Please tell all the contacts in your messenger list not to accept Jayden K. Smith friendship request. He is a hacker and has the system connected to your Facebook account.
"If one of your contacts accepts it, you will also be hacked, so make sure that all your friends know it. Thanks. Forwarded as received. Hold your finger down on the message. At the bottom in the middle it will say forward. Hit that then click on the names of those in your list and it will send to them."
People who had shared the post, need not worry about anyone taking control of their account. Snopes, Hoax-Slayer, and ThatsNonsense had all confirmed the warning appeared to be fake and was the latest in a string of hacker warnings circulating on social media.
Meanwhile, experts warned that the only way to protect one's account or at least attempt to from hackers was to have a strong password, and not leave your one's account logged on a shared computer and to be vigilant.
They advise users to stop forwarding the Jayden message, stop posting about Jayden and stop thinking about him.
