Hyundai deadlock ends as TN government intervenes
29 Jul 2009
Management and striking technicians at Hynduai Motor Ltd (HMIL) have struck a deal to end the industrial relations deadlock.
The deal ends the impasse resulting from the sit-in strike by some 300 technicians following the signing of a wage accord by the seven-member working committee.
Under the agreement reached with the intervention of the government of Tamil Nadu, the management has agreed to revoke the transfer of the nine transferred workmen, according to an official release.
The workers who were on strike have accepted the terms of the wage revision agreement of 23 July and returned to work. With the resolution of the dispute, the government has cleared the way for ushering in a congenial work atmosphere in the factory.
According to informed sources, the management has prevailed in its stand on not granting recognition to the union formed in 2007, which was the bone of contention between the workers and the nmanagement. However, the management has given in to the union's demand for revocation of the transfer order served on nine workmen on disciplinary grounds.
However, these workers will not be reinstated in their previous unit but to other units like the HMIL workshops.
