Lenovo forays into India’s smartphone market

Lenovo, the world's second-largest personal computer manufacturer, has launched a series of smartphones in the India, and expects to repeat the success is recorded in its home market, China.
Lenovo is entering the Indian market for smartphones after having built a successful mobile phone business as the number two player with 11.2 per cent (Q2 CY2012) market share in China.
The Chinese company, which had acquired IBM's PC division in 2005, has launched five new Android with prices starting from Rs6,499 to Rs28,499. The phones are Lenovo A60+, Lenovo S880, Lenovo P700i, Lenovo K860, and Lenovo S560.
''Having witnessed success in the PC space where we are currently No 1 in India, our entry into the smartphones category is a strategic move that reinforces our commitment to lead technology and innovation across the 4 screens. The number of consumers adopting smarter, wireless technology in the country is on the rise and we anticipate a huge increase in smartphone users.

For the number one PC maker in India for two straight quarters (IDC Q1 and Q2 CY2012), this move strongly stems from its 4 screen strategy in the PC era, of which smartphones is a key component.
The four screens comprise PCs, tablets, smartphones and smart TVs. While PCs are central to the digital lives of millions, the epicentre of communication and businesses is shifting towards wireless devices like smartphones, tablets and netbooks.
