NTPC to set up 2,640 MW plant in Madhya Pradesh

New Delhi: State-run power utility, the National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC Ltd) has said it has entered into an agreement with the Madhya Pradesh government and the MP Power Trading Company for setting up a 2,640 MW thermal power plant in the Narsinghpur district of the state.
Union power minister, Sushilkumar Shinde, said on the occasion of signing of the memorandum of understanding here that the government would provide all the necessary clearances for fast implementation of the project.
The project will have four units of 660 MW each with supercritical technology, NTPC said in a statement.
NTPC has total installed capacity of 30,644 MW through 26 power plants.
The company has a capacity addition target of 75,000 MW by 2017, and currently has projects with a capacity of 17,930 MW under implementation.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of completing 34 years of operations since inception this month, CMD RS Sharma has said that NTPC was among the cleanest fossil fuel power generators in the world and its CO2 intensity was comparable with the best. Performance of NTPC power stations on parameters of capacity utilisation, availability, planned outages, had been found better compared to global utilities who were members of North American Electric Reliability Corporation which maintains a database of 5,000 units world over.
NTPC Ltd is the largest power utility in the country and is also the fourth largest power generating company in Asia and the sixth largest in the world.
