PeopleSoft is no newcomer to the acquisition game. Since 1996 it has acquired over a dozen smaller companies with a view to expanding and deepening its product portfolio. Here is a list of these acquisitions, along with the acquisition dates (in brackets after the name) and PeopleSoft's official remarks on each:
Teamscape (July 2002)
PeopleSoft acquired Teamscape Corporation, a leading learning management systems provider. PeopleSoft's leadership in Human Capital Management and the learning market combined with Teamscape's domain expertise and product capability make PeopleSoft the first major enterprise vendor to deliver a fully integrated enterprise learning management solution.
Calico Commerce (February 2002)
PeopleSoft acquired San Jose, California-based Calico Commerce, Inc. Calico's scalable, best-of-breed product configurator combined with PeopleSoft's industry-leading Customer Relationship Management and Supply Chain Management solutions enable PeopleSoft to be the first enterprise applications provider to offer a comprehensive product configurator solution for both the sales and manufacturing processes.
Annuncio (January 2002)
PeopleSoft completed its acquisition of Mountain View, California-based Annuncio Software, Inc. With this purchase, PeopleSoft continues to raise the bar in delivering industry-leading CRM functionality. Annuncio's leading marketing automations solution, combined with PeopleSoft's industry-leading CRM solution, enables companies to automate and personalize online customer business interactions within a single integrated CRM solution.
Cohera (August 2001)
PeopleSoft completed its acquisition of Cohera, Inc. The combined solution of Cohera's sophisticated Catalog Management System and PeopleSoft's industry-leading sales-side and buy-side applications is the first to enable both purchasing and merchandising professionals to create and manage catalogs for buying and selling goods and services over the Internet. In addition, customers can extend this business process to include their suppliers.
SkillsVillage (May 2001)
PeopleSoft completed its acquisition of SkillsVillage, a company based in Sunnyvale, California, with the exchange of PeopleSoft stock and cash for all of SkillsVillage's outstanding stock. The acquisition bolsters PeopleSoft's lead in the Enterprise Service Automation (ESA) market. PeopleSoft is consolidating SkillsVillage's technology into its ESA offering, resulting in the industry's only pure Internet collaborative solution to automate a company's entire services procurement process.
Advance Planning Solutions (May 2000)
PeopleSoft completed its acquisition of Advance Planning Solutions, Inc., a business planning and modeling software company based in Oakland, California. PeopleSoft uses Advance Planning Solutions' modeling software, Advance, in its budget and analytic applications. Advance provided an innovative, Web-based business modeling and analysis platform that greatly enhances PeopleSoft's existing analytic applications.
Vantive (January 2000)
PeopleSoft acquired The Vantive Corporation. The combined company will offer a comprehensive eBusiness solution that provides robust applications to attract, service, retain, and analyze customers. Building on several product integrations that were completed during the course of a long-term partnership, PeopleSoft is integrating Vantive's customer-focused solutions into PeopleSoft's broad-ranging eBusiness applications. The resulting applications combine customer information, transactional data, and business intelligence to allow for a 360-degree view of the customer lifecycle.
Distinction Software (September 1999)
PeopleSoft completed its acquisition of Distinction Software Inc., a supply chain management software company based in Atlanta, Georgia. PeopleSoft combined its existing Demand Planning applications with Distinction's software and technology, leading to an enhanced Supply Chain Management product. This product performs the high-volume demand planning activities associated with consumer products companies.
Intrepid Systems (October 1998)
PeopleSoft acquired Intrepid Systems, a leading provider of retail management solutions based in Alameda, California. The acquisition has established PeopleSoft as a clear leader in the $3 billion retail enterprise-application software market, and it has enabled PeopleSoft to extend its coverage of the supply chain to include retail management. Together, the companies have created the retail industry's first comprehensive enterprise solution on a single technology platform, offering rich functionality, ease of use, information access, and flexibility.
TriMark Technologies (June 1998)
PeopleSoft acquired TriMark Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of software solutions for the life insurance industry based in Lincolnshire, Illinois. PeopleSoft and TriMark have created the life insurance industry's first single-source integrated enterprise software solution.
TeamOne (October 1997)
PeopleSoft acquired TeamOne, LLC, a provider of implementation services to middle-market companies. This acquisition is a key part of PeopleSoft Solutions for Small and Mid-Sized Organizations, which offers medium-size companies a cost-efficient implementation of an enterprise-wide solution.
Salerno Manufacturing Systems (August 1997)
PeopleSoft acquired Salerno Manufacturing Systems, an industry-leading provider of quality management software solutions. Acquiring Salerno added significant value to PeopleSoft's global manufacturing customers frame by giving them a leading manufacturing quality-control solution. The PeopleSoft Quality application was released with PeopleSoft 7.5 in March 1998.
Campus Solutions (August 1997)
PeopleSoft acquired Campus Solutions, with which it had already developed a suite of student administration applications by using PeopleTools, PeopleSoft's rapid application development environment. With this acquisition, PeopleSoft brought "in-house" the Campus Solutions' development and implementation consulting team.
PeopleMan (October 1996)
PeopleSoft acquired PeopleSoft Manufacturing, Inc. and PeopleMan, LP collectively referred to as PMI. PMI developed new applications to meet the demands of discrete manufacturers by using PeopleTools, PeopleSoft's rapid application development environment.
Red Pepper (October 1996)
PeopleSoft acquired San Mateo, California-based Red Pepper, a leading provider of manufacturing and supply chain optimization solutions for supply-chain, single-plant, and order-promising operations. With Red Pepper's real-time planning and scheduling technology, PeopleSoft customers maximize their return on assets while providing the highest level of service to their customers. The release of PeopleSoft 7 in September 1997 marked the debut of several new features in the Red Pepper supply-chain optimization solutions, including sales order prioritization, equipment preference, and enhanced sourcing logic.
