11 Dec 2009
Reliance Communications, the Anil Ambani-run telecom company, has bagged 'mGovernance' contracts in the circles of Kerala, Mumbai and Maharashtra. This is basically a fee-based information service which enables people to access exam results for government jobs, register police complaints, access tourist information, and so on, on their mobile phones. The contracts are estimated to be worth Rs900 crore.
The company is also trying to acquire similar contracts in Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Karnataka.
The mGovernance system to be offered by RCom will provide a 24-hour helpline to help on issues such as domestic abuse, real time police information, updates on land records, etc through an integrated mobile delivery module.
For the project, RCom will rope in VAS service provider partners of governments in these states to connect various government departments in these circles. For instance, the Dilip Wagh-promoted IIST Infotech is the VAS partner in Mumbai and Maharashtra, while MobeMe Wireless is the VAS partner for Kerala.
The infrastructure system to be set-up by RCom will enable information dispersion through various modes such as voice, GPRS, Bluetooth, SMS and 3G. RCOM will create a comprehensive and integrated service delivery platform for easy roll out the services in these circles.
RCom estimates that the mGovernance projects can potentially generate over 20 crore worth of transactions daily. It will deploy dedicated shortcodes, SMSC, and IVR systems for these projects.
