Titan to launch watches in Pak, jewellery in US
20 Nov 2007
Hosur: Tata Group company Titan Industries, which produces watches, jewellery and prescription eyewear has announced plans to market its products across the border, in Pakistan, and later in Thailand, followed by Indonesia.
According to the company's managing director Bhaskar Bhat, in a few months, the company will start selling its watches in Thailand, and would follow with Indonesia next.
Titan watches, according to Bhat, are already popular in Pakistan, with a number of Pakistanis buying them from Dubai. He attributed this demand to a number of Indian TV channels that can be viewed in Pakistan, which allow advertisements to reach into that country. He says most Indian brand ambassadors are well recognised in Pakistan, and will in all likely hood also take its jewellery brand Tanishq across the border.
Titan has appointed Pakistan's Lakhani group as its distributor.
Bhat said the company is planning to launch Tanishq in the US market, most probably by next April, with the first retail of the jewellery brand starting in New Jersey and Chicago, for which outlets of around 2,000 sq ft each are in the process of being created.
In terms of design, the jewellery will be aimed to cater to American tastes, not necessarily ethnic Indian ones that the company is well known for.
