TCS helps Cochin Port become India's first ePort
06 Feb 2009
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has completed implementation of customised application software for Cochin Port Trust, making it the country's first `ePort'.
TCS has customised the application software for port operations, including SAP, ERP, GIS-based estate management and set up a state-of-art data centre along with campus-wide networking for the port.
The integrated system will provide port users, banks and other ports with a real-time interface with Cochin Port, which will allow port users file applications, receive service bills as also make payments and enquiries through a single window.
"I am happy to see the speedy implementation of ePort in record time of 10 months. With this, we will be enabled and empowered to closely monitor performance, improve operational efficiency and provide higher standards of service to the shipping and export-import community," said N Ramachandran, chairman of Cochin Port.
The project integrates the port's operational, financial, real-estate and human resource systems on a single information system. Once fully operational it would provide a real time interface with customs, port users, banks and the port community system of the Indian Ports Association (IPA).
