The estimated addressable market opportunity is around $25 billion, growing at over 20 per cent annually. This business will offer solutions to hospitals and health insurance companies for efficient and compliant work flows, bio-informatics solutions to life science companies to significantly reduce drug discovery cycle time and IT solutions to medical and analytical devices companies.
Wipro has, meanwhile, appointed D A Prasanna as vice-chairman of Wipro Ltd. He will lead Wipro Healthcare and Life Science.
Announcing the new initiative, Wipro chairman Azim Premji says: "The launch of Wipro Healthcare and Life Science is in continuation of our strategy to identify growth opportunities that enhance shareholder value. We believe information technology can revolutionise healthcare and life sciences. Our domain expertise in information technology and customer relationships built in healthcare business through Wipro GE Medical Systems Ltd and Wipro Biomed provides us with a distinct edge to address the requirements of this emerging segment. In Prasanna we have the right leadership and entrepreneurial energy to achieve our vision to position India as a leader in IT solutions for healthcare and life science business."
The Wipro Biomed business, currently reported under the Others' segment, will be transferred into Wipro Healthcare and Life Science. This move is to leverage the existing strong relationship with leading manufacturers of medical and life science equipment. The new business will also leverage the customer relationship with the hospitals of Wipro GE Medical Systems, a joint venture between Wipro and GE. In addition, the existing client base of Wipro Technologies in the healthcare vertical will also be transferred to Wipro Healthcare and Life Science.
Wipro had recently completed the CRM integration project for Pepco Services of the US. The project is a major milestone in the Washington DC-based Pepco Energy Services CRM and business process initiatives.
The Siebel-ABP integration project successfully completed by Wipro allows for the seamless exchange of information between Pepco Energy Services, its sales agents, its billing service provider (ABP host) and the many local utilities it exchanges information with. The project also has enabled several advanced features for their users resulting in faster and higher quality of customer service.
The Siebel/ABP integration project allows for additional flexibility in creating multiple billing and service accounts for a single customer. This will be an important feature for commercial customers with multiple service addresses or for residential customers who own rental property at different addresses.
