ISIS video warns of attack on Washington in
17 Nov 2015
In a new video Islamic State (IS) has warned that countries taking part in air strikes against Syria would suffer the same fate as France, and threatened to attack Washington.
The video, which appeared on a site used by IS to post its messages, shows news footage of the aftermath of Friday's Paris shootings which left 132 people dead.
The countries taking part in the ''crusader campaign'' as it called the air strikes were warned in the video by al Ghareeb, identified as an Algerian, dressed in fatigues and a turban.
''We say to the states that take part in the crusader campaign that, by God, you will have a day, God willing, like France's and by God, as we struck France in the centre of its abode in Paris, then we swear that we will strike America in Washington,'' al Ghareeb threatened.
The authenticity of the video could not be ascertained. The video purports to be the work of Islamic State fighters in the Iraqi province of Salahuddine, north of Baghdad.
The French government, terming the Paris attacks an act of war, said it would not end its air strikes against IS in Syria and Iraq.
'Al Ghareeb, the Algerian' also warned Europe in the video that more attacks were in the offing.
''I say to the European countries that we are coming, coming with booby traps and explosives, coming with explosive belts and [gun] silencers and you will be unable to stop us because today we are much stronger than before,'' he said.
According to ISIS, the carnage in France was just the beginning.
According to CIA director John Brennan the Paris attacks should serve as a wake-up call for Americans.
''It's not just Europe. I think we here in the United States need to be obviously quite vigilant,'' Brennan said during remarks at the Center for Strategic & International Studies Global Security Forum.
''Their agenda is to kill. Pure and simple,'' added Brennan.
Security has been ramped up across the country with a heavy police presence in several landmark areas.
