Consumer price inflation for industrial workers down at 10.24% in April

Consumer price inflation for industrial workers in the country, based on the consumer price index for industrial workers (CPI-IW) stood at 10.24 per cent in April 2013 against 11.44 per cent in the previous month, despite higher food prices.
The year-on-year inflation measured by monthly CPI-IW stood at 10.22 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year.
Food inflation during April 2013 stood at 12.39 per cent against 13.21 per cent in the previous month and 10.66 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year.
The all-India CPI-IW for April 2013 rose 2 points to 226, increasing by 0.89 per cent from the previous month and up 1.99 per cent between the same two months a year ago, official data released today showed.
The largest contribution to the upward movement in the current index came from the food group, which increased by 2.08 per cent, contributing 2.07 percentage points to the total change.
This was followed by the fuel and light group with 0.91 per cent increase, contributing 0.12 percentage points to the change.
At item level, the largest upward pressure came from rice, wheat and wheat atta, arhar dal, milk (cow), ginger, root and green non-leafy vegetables, tea leaf, tea (beverage), saltish snack, cigaratte, electricity charges, medicine (allopathic) etc.
However, this was compensated by mustard oil and petrol putting downward pressure on the index.
Centre-wise, Mysore recorded the largest increase of 13 points, followed by Giridih, Bengaluru and Puducherry (8 points each) and Darjeeling (7 points). Among other centres, six centers recorded increase of 6 points each while two centers recorded increase of 5 points each, seven centers recorded increase of 4 points each, 15 centres recorded increase of 3 points each, 17 centres recorded increase of 2 points each and 13 centres recoded increase on 1 point each.
On the contrary, the Godavarikhani centre recorded a decline of 4 point while four other centers recorded decline of 2 points each and another centre recorded a 4 per cent decline. Indices in the remaining 7 centres remained stationary.
The indices of 40 centres rose above the all-India index while 35 other centers were below national average. The index of Chandigarh, Haldia and Ahmedabad centres remained at par with all-India index.
