CPI for agricultural and rural workers up at 9.14 per cent and 8.96 per cent in March

Consumer price inflation rate based on the consumer price index for agricultural and rural labourers increased from 8.55 per cent in February 2011 for both the series to 9.14 per cent and 8.96 per cent, respectively in March 2011.
Inflation based on food index of CPI-AL and CPI-RL stood at 7.16 per cent and 7.34 per cent, respectively, in March 2011.
The all-India consumer price index for agricultural labourers (Base: 1986-87=100) increased by 1 point to 585 points during March 2011 while it remained stationary at 584 points for rural labourers.
The rise/fall in index varied from state to state. In the case of agricultural labourers, it recorded an increase between 1 to 5 points in 11 states and a decrease between 1 to 6 points in 7 states. It, however, remained constant in 2 states.
Haryana with 648 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 482 points stood at the bottom.
The index for rural labourers recorded an increase between 1 and 5 points in 12 states while it decreased between 1 and 6 points in 6 states. It, however, remained constant in 2 states.
