Parliament adjourns sine die

The Parliament adjourned sine die on 16 February after a session that saw record number of bills being introduced in both houses of Parliament – the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
Vyalar Ravi, minister of parliamentary affairs and overseas Indian affairs, held a press conference today on the conclusion of the 15th session of the 14th Lok Sabha and the 215th session of the Rajya Sabha, which had commenced on 12 February 2009.
The session transacted financial business relating to the railways, general interim budgets and interim budget relating to the state of Jharkhand for 2009-10. The Lok Sabha discussed and voted the demands for grants on account and supplementary demands for grants relating to the railways and the general budgets and demands for excess grants relating to railway budget and the related appropriation bills and subsequently returned by the Rajya Sabha.
The two Houses also considered and passed/returned the Finance Bill, 2009. Interim budget for the state of Jharkhand was discussed in both Houses and demands for grants on account and supplementary demands for grants for the state of Jharkhand was discussed and voted in the Lok Sabha and related appropriation bills were returned by the Rajya Sabha.
Bills replacing three ordinances, namely, the High Court and Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Amendment Ordinance, 2009; the Central Industrial Security Force (Amendment) Ordinance, 2009; and the Central Universities Ordinance, 2009 were also considered and passed by both Houses.
During the session 17 bills (15 in the Lok Sabha and two in the Rajya Sabha) were introduced. Lok Sabha passed 22 bills and Rajya Sabha passed 16 bills. A total of 16 bills were passed by both Houses of Parliament during the session. Two bills were withdrawn in the Lok Sabha.
