US lawmaker lauds India’s Cyclone Phailin efforts

A US lawmaker today praised the efforts of Indian officials in carrying out massive evacuations before Cyclone Phailin which hit Odisha and Andhra Pradesh on Saturday night.
"Our hearts go out to all who have been affected by this natural disaster, and I applaud government officials for conducting massive evacuations prior to the storm which no doubt saved many, many lives," Congresswoman Grace Meng, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said.
"I ask all Americans to send their thoughts and prayers to all who have been impacted by this tragedy," she said in a statement.
She pointed out that over 9.9 lakh people had been evacuated ahead of the cyclone in Odisha that helped to save many lives.
