Xiaomi starts delivery of its smart car SU7
03 Apr 2024
Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has started delivery of its end-to-end connected smart car, SU7, on Wednesday. Xiaomi said its 28 EV distribution centres across China will also simultaneously start delivery of SU7s to customers.
Xiaomi founder-chairman and CEO Lei Jun said deliveries of SU7 will start on 3 April, following a launch ceremony at the company’s EV plant in Yizhuang, Beijing.
Officially launched on 28 March 2024, Xiaomi’s SU7 smart car offers an end-to-end connected ecosystem – a “Human x Car x Home" smart ecosystem – as the company puts it.
First introduced at MWC Barcelona 2024, the SU7 is a pioneering effort to seamlessly integrate all user needs into one smart ecosystem, in what looks like an Asian challenge to current EV market leader Tesla.
Xiaomi's “Human x Car x Home" smart ecosystem, which seamlessly merges personal devices, smart home products, and cars, is an extension of its "Smartphone x AIoT" model. This ensures seamless connectivity of hardware with real-time coordination, facilitating trouble-free driving.
Positioned as a full-size high-performance sedan, the SU7 brings together five core EV technologies - E-Motor, CTB Integrated Battery, Xiaomi Die-Casting, Xiaomi Pilot Autonomous Driving, and Smart Cabin.
Xiaomi’s SU7 smart car is the result of a global effort involving a team of over 3,400 engineers and 1,000 technical experts and an investment of over 10 billion yuan ($1.38 billion).
The SU7 is available in three versions with prices in the range of 215,900 yuan ($29,840), 245,900 yuan, and 299,900 yuan, respectively.
Deliveries of customised SU7 cars in the standard and Max versions will start at the end of April, while that of the Pro version will start at the end of May, the company said at the model's launch event.
Xiaomi is also offering a Founders Edition of the SU7, which is, however, limited to 5,000 units. Prices are similar to those of the standard and Max editions.
Xiaomi claims to have received more than 10,000 firm orders in four minutes, 20,000 units in seven minutes, and 50,000 firm orders in 27 minutes after the start of bookings.
Xiaomi said the SU7 received 88,898 firm orders in the first 24 hours as of 29 March.
