Government yet to finalise national floor for wages in the unorganised sector

The government is in the process of consulting various stakeholders and is yet to take a final decision on the proposal for amending the Minimum Wages Act, 1948 and fixing a statutory national floor level minimum wage.
At present, minimum wage rates in the unorganised sector in the country vary from state to state. The approximate minimum wages in various states and union territories are as follows.

The range of minimum wage for unskilled workers in the central sphere is estimated to range from Rs156 to Rs256 per day while in the states it varies from state to state.
The following are the proposed minimum wage rates for states: Andhra Pradesh (Rs68.96 - Rs231.71), Arunachal Pradesh (Rs134.62 - Rs153.85), Assam (Rs66.50 - Rs100), Bihar (Rs138 - Rs144), Chhattisgarh (Rs104.60 - Rs151.04), Goa (Rs150 – 157), Gujarat (Rs100 – 169), Haryana (Rs173.19), Himachal Pradesh (Rs110), Jammu & Kashmir (Rs110), Jharkhand (Rs127), Karnataka (Rs82.57 - 227.89), Kerala (Rs110.00 - 322.10), Madhya Pradesh (Rs119 - Rs169.03), Maharashtra (Rs95.65 - 248.15), Manipur (Rs122.10), Meghalaya (Rs100).
These figures were given by minister for labour and employment Mallikarjun Kharge in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
