The government has approved the payment of productivity-linked reward (PLR) at 17.34 per cent of the annual salary/wage to officers and workers of ports for the year 2009-10. This will benefit about 61,000 port employees, a government release said today.

Basic pay, DA and incentive payments of employees will be considered for this, subject to a maximum of Rs3,500 per month. In respect of those whose salaries exceed Rs3,500 per month, the calculation of payment will be made as if their salaries were only Rs3,500 per month.

All expenditure on account of this payment will be borne by the Major Port Trusts from their own resources without any budgetary support from the government, the release said.
