Vinod Kumar appointed as the new MD & CEO of Tata Communications

Tata Communications Limited today announced that Vinod Kumar, director on its board, will replace N Srinath as the managing director and CEO of the company.
Srinath who has been appointed as the MD & CEO of Tata Teleservices Ltd. and Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Ltd, while continuing to be a non-executive director at Tata Communications and some of its subsidiary / associate companies such as Neotel.
The new appointments will become effective from 1 February 2011.
Kumar joined Tata Communications in April 2004, just when the company was embarking on its international growth. He was closely associated with the acquisitions of TGN and Teleglobe and assumed responsibility as managing director of the company's international operations.
Subsequently, he was promoted as the Chief Operating Officer, and currently manages the global data business unit as well as the engineering and operations functions.
Kumar, a graduate from BITS, Pilani, has been at the forefront of Tata Communications' shift away from traditional network services towards managed services and recently, cloud computing.
Srinath joined Tata Communications, then VSNL, in 2002 as director, operations, when the Tata Group was selected as the strategic partner at the company.
He was appointed as the managing director & CEO in February 2007.
Srinath is credited with the transformation of Tata Communications from being the public sector VSNL monopoly, into a global communications services provider offering advanced network, managed and cloud services to customers worldwide.
