Berger Paints appoints COO Abhijit Roy as managing director

Kolkata-based Berger Paints today announced that Abhijit Roy, COO and director since 2011, has assumed the position of managing director with effect from 1 July 2012 following the retirement of Subir Bose.
"As company's COO, Roy has played a very crucial role in fuelling Berger Paints' success in reaching Rs3,000 crore mile–stone." a statement from Berger Paints said.
Roy joined Berger in the year 1996 as product manager for ColorBank Tinting System. After helping the company to consistently outperform the market, he was promoted as the general manager marketing in 2004, responsible for the entire marketing function for Berger Paints' Indian operations.
In 2007 he was promoted as V P sales and marketing, handling sales, marketing, logistics and consumer services of the 'decorative business', which contributed to about 80 per cent of the company's turnover of Rs3,000 crore. He was also in charge of the company's overseas operations in Nepal and Russia.
Roy launched the consumer services function including 'home painting' during this period. He also worked with Shining Strategies for Corporate Brand Restructuring of Lewis Berger (from Berger Paints to Lewis Berger). It was during his time that two flagship Brands of the Company namely WeatherCoat and Rangoli Easy Clean were launched.
Roy, a mechanical engineerinig graduate from Jadavpur University, followed by a MBA from IIM Bangalore, started his post MBA career in 1991 with Asian Paints (I) Ltd and then Lab Garnier, a division of L'Oreal in 1994.
