Spice Mobility appoints Dilip Modi as chairman

S Mobility (erstwhile Spice Mobility) has appointed Dilip Modi as its chairman as part of succession planning within the B K Modi-controlled group.
Currently the chairman of Singapore-listed Si2i and also a director of S Mobility, Modi's global exposure to technology and market experience will help propel the company towards increasing is regional market share. His experience would also provide an upward thrust to the company's earnings growth, S Mobility said in a statement.
Dilip Modi built India's first mobile network company, Modi Telstra, in collaboration with Telstra from Australia. He later became the company's chairman in 1999.
He also led the public listing of Spice Communication on the Indian stock exchange in 2007. Over the last five years, Modi has been focused on building next generation technology businesses in India around smart devices, technology retailing, mobile applications, online education and commerce.
He is also a prominent figure in the telecom industry and policy circles, been the youngest president of industry body Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry and GSM operators' body Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).

I believe that the future of mobile internet remains bright with the continued proliferation of portable devices such as smartphones and tablets, underpinned by consumers' demand for digital content,'' said Dilip Modi.
''Spice Mobility will focus its strategies on connected devices built on both 2G and 3G and other evolving technology platforms and the entire retail and services ecosystem around it to ensure holistic growth of the company,'' he added.
Dilip Modi holds a first class honours bachelors of science from Brunel University, UK and a masters in business administration from Imperial College, London.
