Tata Power receives first set of battery energy storage system from Tata AutoComp

Tata Power on Friday received the first set of energy storage batteries from Tata AutoComp for its energy storage site. The integration of the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) will enable round-the-clock supply of clean power from its renewables site.

The Li-Ion based BESS were handed over to Tata Power MD and CEO Praveer Sinha. Tata Power will deploy these energy storage batteries at its 120 MW Energy Storage Park in Chhattisgarh.

Tata AutoComp, a leading auto-component manufacturer, also inaugurated its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for BSES, Tata AutoComp Gotion Green Energy Solutions Pvt Ltd.

The manufacturing facility is being set up as a joint venture between group companies Tata Power and Tata AutoComp. 

"With the rise of renewables, energy storage has become critical to address the intermittency of solar and wind energy resources. We shall integrate these BESS at our renewable sites to enable round-the-clock supply of clean power and ensure a speedier green energy transition," Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD of Tata Power, said.

"Tata AutoComp has always been a pioneer in introducing cutting edge technology to its customers. We are leveraging our knowledge in the automotive domain to serve emerging markets, which have a synergy in technology. We have been pioneers in launching the Li-Ion based battery packs and BMS for the electric vehicle segment. We are now leveraging this knowledge to build Battery Energy Storage Systems." Arvind Goel, chairman of Tata AutoComp, said.

Spread over 22,227 square feet, the newly inaugurated BESS facility will have a capacity of 6 GWH and will serve the emerging energy storage industry.

Tata Power, one of India’s largest integrated power companies with operations across the entire value chain, reported a 29 per cent year-on-year increase in after-tax profit, at Rs1,141 crore, for April-June quarter of the current financial year  

Consolidated revenue for the quarter stood at Rs15,003 crore, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBDTA) grew 43 per cent to Rs3,005 crore.
