"We are talking to Tata Motors for testing its vehicles on bio-diesel developed from the Jatropha plant. Besides, we are in touch with Indian Oil for studying our new alternative to diesel,'' said CSIR director general, R. A. Mashelkar, at a press conference.
Two Mercedes Benz cars, which were successfully test driven on bio-diesel for more than 5,000 km, were on display yesterday.
CSIR along with the University of Hohenheim (Germany) and Daimler Chrysler, had initiated a study on the sustainability of bio-diesel, derived from Jatropha oil, as an automotive fuel.
"We have developed a Euro-III compliant bio-diesel from Jatropha. We have made only very minute changes in the car to use this fuel,'' said Daimler Chrysler director (corporate affairs and finance) Suhas Kadlaskar.
