Mobile Asia 2008 kicks-off in New Delhi; spotlight on ‘GenNext’

New Delhi: Mobile Asia 2008, India's largest consumer exhibition on mobile phones and accessories, commenced at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi on the 29 February 2008.
Organised by the Indian Cellular Association (ICA), the four-day event will feature the latest technological developments in the Indian mobile market with participation of several domestic and global mobile manufacturing companies.
Leading mobile handset manufacturers and service providers such as Airtel, Vodafone, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, i-mate, Intex, Leuci, SanDisk, Scratchgard, Sony Ericsson, Tata Teleservices, World Phone and World Space Radio are participating in the event.
Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit inaugurated the event. A panel of distinguished guests, including Lloyd Mathias, chairman, ICA, Pankaj Mohindroo, national president, ICA, Ashok Gupta, general secretary, ICA, Sunil Dutt, co-chairman, ICA, and Adarsh Shastri, national secretary, were present with the chief minister.
The event is the fourth in the line of mobile expos organised by the ICA. Pankaj Mohindroo, national president, ICA, at the inauguration said, there is a huge growth in mobile subscribers, especially among the younger generation.
He added that Mobile Asia 2008 will focus on "GenNext" to ensure that the growing customer segment see the latest in mobiles, the world's largest convergent device and also provide a platform for the industry to interact and communicate with the consumers.
Lloyd Mathias, chairman of Mobile Asia, felt that Mobile Asia is India's biggest consumer mobile event, which is estimated to attract over 3 lakh visitors over the four days and truly reflects India's position as the fastest growing mobile telecom market in the world.
According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), India had a whopping 8.77 million new mobile phone subscribers last month with the total number of telephone subscribers reaching 242.40 million.
